Brown and Sharpe VMC 1000 with NEW Autocon 50 CNC control installed.
A customer had two Brown and Sharpe VMC 1000 machines. One had a Dynapath 5M control in
a free standing console, and the other a GE 1050 control on a pendant. Both of the
machines had reliability problems.
Visimetrics sent an engineer and technician to check the machine interfaces, and gather
information for the retrofit.
The customer wanted both machines to have pendants, so we custom designed and
fabricated a pendant arm using standard components in the final two sections. The control
moves in and out, side to side, and swivels. The operator is able to position the control
where he is working.
We also prewired the electrical enclosures, installed the operator panels in the
pendant boxes, and made all possible preparations before beginning the on-site work.
We arrived at the customer's site on Monday. By Friday, both machine had new controls
and both machines were running.
The following week a service technician and software engineer arrived to finish the
interface, make adjustments, solve a few minor problems, and train the operators. We also
connected the machines to the customer's personal computers.
We spent a total of eight days on-site and completed two retrofits.
